So as
part of our trip to Jordan, one of the highlights was definitely visiting Petra
and riding a camel. I can now check camel riding off of my bucket list.
Actually, in all honesty, it has never been on my bucket list, so it will be
one of those things that I add and then immediately cross off to make me feel
better about myself. Other then camel riding, we did a lot of hiking, met a
crazy singing Bedouin woman sitting on the edge of the High Place, rode horses,
and sweat a lot. Petra is soooo hot. I have always eavesdropped on
conversations where people discuss that when they are in the heat, their
fingers start to swell. I have never experienced this until Petra. It’s a gross
feeling. Also I think I drank 4 Liters of water that day. I basically became a camel.
So, for
those of you who don’t know, Petra is officially on the list for the New 7
Wonders of the World. After going there, it is obvious why. Petra is beautiful.
It reminds me a lot of Southern Utah beauty but a million times better. Brief
History: Petra was the capital city of the Nabateans around 312 BC. The
treasury carved out of the rock in Petra is featured in Indiana Jones and the
Last Crusade. Also it’s interesting to see how many Bedouin people trek up to
Petra to sell tacky souvenirs to all of the tourists. However, they guilt trip
you. As I hiked up, they would try to convince me to buy things and I would
respectfully decline. However, on the way back down, they would single me out
and say you promised you would buy something. I never said such a thing and I
didn’t want to buy anything, so I obviously spent my whole hike walking down,
feeling like the worst person on Earth because of those Bedouin merchants.

| This is me in front of the Treasury! It's all carved into the rock so it's super cool. |
 |
| This is the monastery. It was supposed to be a 40 min hike, but we were running late so we did it in like 20 minutes, |
 |
| That black dot in the corner is the crazy Bedouin woman. Loved her |
